The Postmaster General today delivered the 18
th edition of the
Cambridge English Pronouncing Dictionary. It's the version with CD-ROM I've got. I'm looking forward to giving the dictionary and the CD a close look (and a sharp ear).
Should your mind boggle about the spectrogram on the cover: It's the word 'Cambridge' as pronounced by one of the authors of the dictionary. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new or am I?
I'm tempted to comment not in conventional spelling or IPA but in spectrograms. Couldn't find a decent font, though. :-)
